The 33th Tokyo Motor Show 1999

1999.10.22-11.3 (at Makuhari)

The 33rd Tokyo Motor Show marked the first show for passenger cars and motorcycles. The organizer has been holding all-inclusive shows until the 32nd show. From this year forward it will be separated into two shows: one for passenger cars and motorcycles and another for commercial vehicles. Each will continue to be held in alternating years. The theme of this year's show was "Eye to the future. Changing vehicles for the earth." The last event of the 20th century featured a full range of advanced technologies focusing on the environment, safety and ITS. The fuel cell vehicle was, in particular, the star on stage. Toyota, Honda, Daihatsu, Mitsubishi and Mazda all displayed fuel cell vehicles, while 5 carmakers displayed hybrid cars on stage at the show. A topical "3-liter Car" was also presented. Super sports cars displayed by foreign carmakers included the Mercedes-Benz SLR Roadster and Bugatti Veyron. The Ford 201C showed distinct character. Meanwhile, under the banner of "Automobiles in Japan: The first 100 Years," nostalgic cars and motorcycles were presented in the Theme Hall.
