The 44th Tokyo Motor Show 2015
-60th Anniversary Parade to Be Held at Tokyo Motor Show Birthplace-

  • JNR-2015-40
  • September 17, 2015

The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, Inc. (JAMA, Chairman: Fumihiko Ike) will hold the Tokyo Motor Show 60th Anniversary Parade on Saturday, October 24, a week before curtains lift for the 44th Tokyo Motor Show 2015 (dates: Thursday, October 29 through Sunday, November 8; open to the public from Friday, October 30).

The 1st show, then called All Japan Motor Show, was held in 1954 at Hibiya Park in Tokyo, building upon its history with subsequent moves to Korakuen Bicycle Race Stadium, the Harumi Fairgrounds, Makuhari Messe in Chiba, and then the current Tokyo Big Sight. Last year in 2014, the Tokyo Motor Show marked its 60th anniversary.

To commemorate this, approximately 70 iconic vehicles (passenger cars, commercial vehicles, and motorcycles) of the decades from the 1950s onward will be in a parade with top executives of JAMA member companies. The procession will begin on Ginza Miyuki-Dori near Hibiya Park, where the Tokyo Motor Show was born. It will continue to Nihonbashi, where National Route 1 begins, and then to Japan’s iconic commercial district of Ginza.

After the parade, some of the paraded vehicles are scheduled to be exhibited on the pedestrian promenade around the Hibiya Chanter building.

JAMA Chairman Fumihiko Ike will speak at the opening ceremony and top executives of JAMA member companies who will participate in the parade as drivers will join for a ribbon cutting and photo session.

This event will serve to look back at the development of motorization in Japan as well as to publicize and generate excitement for the 44th Tokyo Motor Show 2015 that will start the following weekend.

Details including participants and parade vehicles will be announced on Thursday, October 1.
